Mission Statement

Mission Statement:

In other words, the Introductory Post explaining why we are all here.

Hello everyone! I am pleased to introduce "Words About Words", the literary blog where we will use our words, the power of communication, to discuss the meanings and significance behind other words which have already been written. Through primarily essays, responses and reviews, we will journey to key points in literary history to help maintain the imperative ongoing conversation revolving such influential writers as Edmund Spenser, John Milton, William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Herman Melville, J.R.R. Tolkien, the Beowulf poet, and others.

After an intermediary post including an essay titled "Words Within Words: How Written Correspondences Embody Individual Relations", that by recognizing the merit in communications between characters in literature, we can embark upon our own discussions on literary works. We will then journey back and begin analyzing examples chronologically, with pieces such as Dream of the Rood, the Battle of Maldon, Beowulf, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Our travels may shift over time as we explore where we wish, but at least for now we can see the beginning of the road before it curves around the bend.

Of course, I can only write about those works which I have already read, and as such I embrace any suggestions or wishes anyone might have. I may have missed or been unaware of important works of literature if I have yet to encounter them. Also, any tips on other literary blogs or neat English Literature related webpages/articles/podcasts/news, etc. is always welcome!

Let's Get Writing!
